You should have some movie editing software that will include instructions on how to get the digital footage off the camera. In my experience you plug the camera in, and control it with the computer, extracting the segments that you want.As long as you have an available slot to install the firewire card you are good to go. Odds are the motherboard on your PC should have a slot available. All you'll need then is the proper firewire cable that will connect your camcorder to your PC. All you need is an 'open' pci slot and firewire cable that matches both inputs (camcorder and card) since there are variants regarding this firewire cable.
What you need is a 4pins to 6pins firewire cable to connect both ends. 4pins to camcorder and 6pins to the pci card.
And to be able to upload videos to your desktop, you will need a capture or editing software.
