Ps2 games work with ps3?

yeapyes :]It depends on which version of the PS3 that you got. If you got the 20, 60, or 80 gb version, then you can play PS2 games on the PS3. But if you got the 40 gb version, then you cannot and will not be able to play PS2 games on the 40 gb PS3.They work if you have the 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB PS3.
40GB PS3 doesn't play PS2 games...
80GB Plays most but not all PS2 games.Yes, it's true the new 40GB model does not play PS2 games but if you have one of the new 80GB models it does play PS2 games. BUT REMEMBER the new 80GB model does not have full functionality with all PS2 games. Sony put a software add on into the 80GB models instead of the actual chip which is in the PS2 to cut down on costs. However, the software patch does play a large amount of PS2 games, and Sony is updating this database almost each time they release a new firmware update. My advise is to check back at Playstation.com for new firmware updates.duh, YES!!!!ps3 20gb and 60gb- 95% of ps2 games will work
ps3 80gb- 73% of ps2 games will work
ps3 40gb- 0%of corse, most next gen systems have backward compatibilityShort answer: yes

Long one:

the ps3's are: 40gb, 60gb and 80gb.

40gb has no backwards compatibility, which means that it can't play ps2 games.

both 60 and 80gb has it.

hope this helps!
