The older palms ran Graffiti and the life drive uses Graffiti 2. You no longer need to shift to upper case. All you do is use the Graffiti on the line in between the number section and the letter section. Ever though the screen looks the same as the old palms with 2 sections there is actually 3.
If this is confusing and difficult to deal with, while you can't go back to the way it was, you can go to Prefs - input - wide and it will change the display to 3 sections so you will know where to put the letters to get the output you are looking for.
